Graham Rowntree has revealed the Lions have put contingency plans in place should captain Sam Warburton not be match-fit for the All Blacks.
The Wales back-row is short of match-fitness having only returned from a lay-off to play the Provincial Barbarians, before picking up an ankle problem to rule him out of the Blues and Highlanders games.
Rowntree insists Warburton’s issue is not serious, hinting he may be available for the Highlanders game next week, but his match-fitness will no doubt be called into question. Should this happen, the Lions have plans in place.
“There are a few candidates that we’ve spoken about initially when we spoke about captaincy so there are some other guys we can call upon.” Rowntree said.
“We’ve spoken about that and the potential of that happening but luckily we’ve picked some good leaders in this tour squad.”
Who do you think could make the step up and lead the Lions agains the All Blacks?
