Kangaroo court.
What makes the Lions tour so special, is how it still to this day stands by the core principals when it comes to a good old-fashioned rugby tour.
Anyone that’s been on a rugby tour will know exactly what i’m talking about. Train hard, and party even harder. It’s all a bit of craic, and there’s no better way to build friendships and trust among teammates.
One of the most best games played is kangaroo court. A judge precedes over the team, with a number of players accused of breaking rules, culture etc. As a result they must face their teammates, and be handed their respective punishments. All in good fun.
This summer the Lions kept up tradition by once again running a Kangaroo court, with Rory Best acting as judge according to Liam Williams. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Welshman didn’t want to give too much away, but did reveal that three Lions were forced to dress up as women…
The Lions was the trip of a lifetime,’ Williams said.
‘We had a kangaroo court. Rory Best was the judge, wearing a wig, and a couple of boys were dressed up as girls. Peter O’Mahony, Dan Cole, Joe Marler. I probably shouldn’t go into too much detail…’
Here’s the 1997 Kangaroo court with Keith Wood as judge if you haven’t seen it. Absolutely brilliant watch! Can’t wait to see the 2017 tour video!
