Leinster star appears in court for alleged assault of woman in Copper Face Jacks

Court.

Leinster second-row Alan Spicer has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm following an alleged incident at Copper Face Jacks earlier this month, The Irish Independent reports.

The 21-year-old, a towering 6ft 10 lock who has come through Ireland’s underage system, is accused of assaulting a woman at the Dublin nightclub in the early hours of March 1.

Spicer was arrested at the scene shortly after 4am and later charged at Kevin Street Garda Station that afternoon. He made no reply when the charge was put to him.

The case briefly came before Dublin District Court, where Spicer was granted continuing bail and is due to appear again on May 27. Gardaí told the court that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are still awaited.

On the rugby side, Spicer is viewed as one of the more intriguing young forwards coming through the Leinster system. A product of Clontarf, he has featured in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League this season while also picking up senior minutes at provincial level.

He made his Leinster debut away to the Sharks last year and earned his second cap in a URC clash against Cardiff in February. Known for his size and lineout presence, the lock has also represented Ireland at U20 level.

The case is ongoing.
