Johnny Sexton’s brilliant response when asked “has ROG been in touch?”

Record-breaker.

Ireland made it two from two at this year’s Rugby World Cup last night, with a 59-16, bonus-point win over Tonga in Nantes.

Bundee Aki stole the show once again with two more tries, but talk has centred around the captain after Johnny Sexton made history with a try of his own ta make him Ireland’s record points-scorer, overtaking a certain Ronan O’Gara in the process.

Sexton grabbed an excellent try in the first half to overtake O’Gara, scoring 16 points in total to lift him to an incredible haul of 1090 points for his country.

Speaking after the game, Sexton was asked if O’Gara had been in touch, and his response was brilliant…

“I haven’t checked my phone yet,” The Ireland captain said when asked if O’Gara had been in touch

“I’ve no idea! Ask him. I’m not sure we’re talking to each other after the European Cup final!

“No, I’m sure he will.”

Jokes aside, Sexton was delighted to have finally broken the record and looks forward to the day it’s eventually taken off him.

“I was just happy to score the try,” Sexton said.

“I think one of the lads said it to me under the posts and I actually thought I had got it on the kick before. It’s something when you retire and finish, you can look back and be proud.

“I think my little boy will be over the moon, he was talking about it during the week and it probably means more to him. He’ll chase it down now!

“And so will the other 10s. It’s there to be broken now and I’m sure some young guys will be eyeing it up. Look, I’m very proud to do it but tonight was more about getting the win and moving onto what’s such a massive game now this week.”
