Surprise, surprise.
Former Racing 92 and Springboks playmaker Johan Goosen is set to come out of retirement according to reports in France. Goosen has not played since he retired suddenly from the game when he left Racing at the end of 2016.
It was widely reported at the time that the whole thing was orchestrated by Montpellier owner Mohel Altrad, who at the time was in talks to take over Gloucester, and bring Goosen to the English Premiership.
That deal however, fell through, but now that things have died down regarding the controversy, Altrad has now come out and revealed he’s interested in bringing Goosen to Montpellier.
“I would say that there is a 30% chance that it will happen,” Altrad was quoted as saying by French newspaper Midi Olympique.
“It all depends on the will of his current employer. I remind you that Goosen is still in the squad of Racing. If I can release him, he will strengthen our workforce for the 2018/19 season. But in what state will it be? It will be 18 months that he will not have played.”
Goosen, still just 25, has 13 Test caps to his name since making his debut against Australia back in 2012.
