The Rugby World Cup 2019 draw took place in Japan this morning and it’s safe to say Ireland could have done a hell of a lot worse.
Joe Schmidt’s men have been drawn alongside hosts Japan and neighbours Scotland. Even though Ireland were beaten by the Scots in the Six Nations, things could have been worse given the standard of teams in band two.
Ireland number eight Jamie Heaslip was in London for the draw and it appears he was delighted the cards his national side have been dealt. Alex Lowe of the Times was in the vicinity of the Leinster star for the draw and relayed this dramatic reaction from the Ireland vice-captain.
Jamie Heaslip punched the air when Ireland were drawn in pool one with Scotland and Japan. "We are happy with it. There are tougher groups."

Some Scottish fans were not impressed…
@AlexMLowe Scotland delighted to have drawn Ireland. Heaslip unlikely to even be there, he's been on a steady decline for a couple of years already.
