And then there were four…
The Champions Cup returned this weekend and what a weekend it was with four absolutely cracking quarter final fixtures. Munster, Leinster, Scarlets and Racing are now all that remain, but which players stood out over the four games?
In the backs our team is completely dominated by Munster and Leinster. Only Toulon’s Chris Ashton makes our XV after his excellent showing at fullback. Say what you want about him, but he’s a cracking player.
On the wings we’ve gone with Andrew Conway thanks to his heroics on Saturday, and James Lowe, who seems to be getting better each time he puts on a Leinster jersey. Sam Arnold partners the ever-present Isa Nacewa in the centre, with the Grand Slam-winning duo of Sexton and Murray our halfbacks.
In the pack, things are a lot more spread out. In the front-row we’ve got Mako Vunipola at loosehead, who broke a Champions Cup record on Sunday with 20 carries, partnered by fellow Lions Ken Owens and Tadhg Furlong.
In the second-row you can look no further than Leone Nakarawa and Leinster’s James Ryan (who’s yet to lose a professional game of rugby). And finally, we’ve gone with a Grand Slam back-row of Peter O’Mahony, Dan Leavy and CJ Stander.
