Let’s go.
Ireland boss Andy Farrell is set to name his team to face Romania in the World Cup this weekend just before lunchtime tomorrow – and it looks like he’s gonna go with a rather surprising selection.
With games against Tonga, Scotland, and South Africa still to come, many expected Farrell to rest a number of his frontline players for the fixture against Romania but it appears that won’t be the case.
According to the Irish Times, Ireland are set to field a near full-strength for their Rugby World Cup opener with the likes of Johnny Sexton, Tadhg Furlong, James Ryan, Caelan Doris, and World Player of the Year, Josh van der Flier, all set to start.
If this proves to be the case, it seems Ireland will be looking to hit the ground running this weekend and build momentum as quickly as possible in what many are calling the ‘Pool of Death’.
IRELAND (possible): Hugo Keenan; Mack Hansen, Garry Ringrose, Bundee Aki, James Lowe; Johnny Sexton (capt), Jamison Gibson-Park; Andrew Porter, Rónan Kelleher/Rob Herring, Tadhg Furlong; Tadhg Beirne, James Ryan; Peter O’Mahony, Josh van der Flier, Caelan Doris.
Replacements: Rob Herring/Rónan Kelleher, Jeremy Loughman, Finlay Bealham, Joe McCarthy, Ryan Baird, Conor Murray, Ross Byrne/Jack Crowley, Stuart McCloskey/Robbie Henshaw/Keith Earls/Jimmy O’Brien.
