Needless.
Ireland captain Johnny Sexton didn’t exactly portray himself in the best of lights in Paris this evening, shaking his head in disapproval after management decided to sub the 35-year-old off with 68 minutes on the clock.
Sexton had a mixed game by all accounts, he wasn’t fantastic, he wasn’t poor, but he certainly wasn’t indispensable with just over 10 minutes to go with Ireland trailing by 8 points.
The Leinsterman looked pretty pissed off to be subbed and made it known to his coaches and everyone watching. It wasn’t a good look, especially from your captain of all people.
Yes we know you don’t want to come off, the best players never do. But that reaction undermined his coaches and his provincial teammate Ross Byrne. It was childish, to say the least, and makes you think – is Sexton the right man to captain Ireland going forward?
Poor from Sexton.
Big call to be made at captain in the coming weeks. pic.twitter.com/BATToxeZei
