2016 is will forever be remembered in Irish Rugby.
Ireland lost one of it’s most famous sons, in the shape of former Munster captain and coach, Anthony Foley, but they have also made history in his honour and are in a position to take it one step further.
This summer Ireland defeated South Africa for the first time in their backyard in the country’s long rugby history. They have since followed that up with a memorable first ever victory over the mighty All Blacks after 111 years of trying.
They followed that up with an excellent win over Canada but were unable to match their performance in Chicago this past weekend against the All Blacks. Ireland however can bounce back this weekend and make history in the process.
Should Ireland manage to defeat Australia at the Aviva, they will have completed a first ever historic southern hemisphere grand slam over rugby’s traditional three mega powers.
Can Joe Schmidt’s men do it? We wouldn’t bet against them.
