Leinster are back.
This time last year Leinster Rugby looked to be in big trouble. While they progressed well the PRO12, beaten by Connacht in the final, their European exploits were woeful. Humiliated in their pool, finishing bottom after some pretty hefty defeats.
It was said that the days of PRO12 teams competing in Europe were gone, with the riches of England and France set to dominate in the years to come. Fast forward one year and we’ve got two Irish province’s in the semi-finals. Not bad.
Leinster and Munster’s success can be attributed to a number of factors but for the men in Blue they’ve got back to doing what they do best, and that’s free flowing, attacking rugby that heralds absolute try fests.
Gerry Thornley wrote an excellent piece yesterday in The Irish Times about the two province’s, but it’s this incredible statistic that popped out at us above all else.
“Incredibly, they have already scored 114 tries in 25 competitive games this season, compared to 60 in 30 games last season.”
Unbelievable.
