The RFU has launched an investigation into Sale Sharks winger Tom Arscott for allegedly leaking information to a Bristol player ahead of their New Year’s Day game earlier this month.
Sale have filed a complaint with the RFU stating that Arscott allegedly gave on-field plays and calls to one of the Bristol players before that game.
Sale were leading 15-0 that day before Bristol launched a comeback to pip them 24-23.
Bristol have denied any wrongdoing.
“Bristol have been made aware of a complaint from Sale Sharks, which is now being investigated by the RFU,” the club said in a statement.
“The club are absolutely confident of no wrongdoing in this matter and will fully co-operate with the investigation.”
The RFU received details of the complaint from Sale on Monday afternoon but although the governing body will investigate the allegations, it is understood they will not be subject to an official hearing.
“The RFU are investigating a complaint made by Sale Sharks in relation to the passing of information to the opposition team ahead of the match against Bristol earlier this month,” said an RFU spokesman.
