Ian Madigan hasn’t ruled out a move back to Ireland.
The former Leinster playmaker has asked for an early release from his contract with French outfit Bordeaux-Begles, with a move to England touted at the end of the season.
Madigan’s time with the Top 14 side has been a frustrating one, with the likes of Northampton and Sale said to be interested in bringing him to the Premiership next season.
Speaking to RTE News however, Madigan hasn’t ruled out a move back to Ireland:
“I’ve great memories of playing in Ireland and playing with Leinster and a move back home certainly isn’t something I would rule out.
“The way professional sport has gone now you’ve got to keep an open mind with all options and a move back would probably improve my chances of getting back into the reckoning with Irish selection. So it’s something that would definitely excite me.”
Madigan was left out of Ireland’s Six Nations squad this month, despite a number of injuries at outhalf, with the Irish management team stressing that Irish-based players will always be preferred, the only question now is where could he go? Connacht seems like the only viable option.
