The big man had his say.
Former Leinster lock Tadhg Beirne made the decision to leave Scarlets at the end of the season after a conversation with Ireland boss Joe Schmidt.
After months of speculation, it was finally revealed yesterday afternoon that Beirne had indeed signed a two-year deal with Munster. The southern province see the 25-year-old as an ideal candidate to replace Donnacha Ryan.
It also appears Joe Schmidt feels the same way at international level, having played a role in bringing Beirne home.
“He has been contacted by the Irish coach Joe Schmidt, which is a good sign, I think.” said Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac
“I am not privy to the actual conversation but I know they have had a chat. Joe Schmidt is an intelligent man, he knows how Tadhg plays the game and how we play the game.”
“He may not have known who he was when Tadhg was injured and not playing a lot at Leinster.”
“But he has had a good look at him, like everyone has, and everyone will agree is playing some really good rugby. I think he deserves a shot, I would love to see him get a go.”
Can Beirne make the big step up to international rugby? Only time will tell. Now that the move to Munster is confirmed, could we perhaps see him called up to the November international squad?
