Leinster were held to a 24-24 draw against Castres in France tonight.
The Irish province needed a win to guarantee a home quarter final, but it seems they have done enough regardless. Thanks to the two points earned tonight, the only team that can push them out of the top four are Irish rivals Connacht.
In order for Connacht to do that they need to do the near impossible. Pat Lam’s men must go to Toulouse on Sunday and beat the French side by a 62-point margin, and of course grab a try bonus-point.
Leo Cullen’s men will be rueing their missed chances, against albeit a Castres who were more than up for the occasion. That game however was their for the taking, and Leinster know. If they want to be serious contenders, these are the game you just have to win.
Jamie Heaslip is one of the most experienced members of the current youthful Leinster squad and in the post-match huddle, let his team know how he felt about tonight’s draw.
“You better fuckin learn from this” Heaslip said.
He’s damn right. Tougher games will come hard and fast, and if Leinster want to win some silverware, they better ‘fuckin learn.”
