Cleaning up.
It was revealed today that Munster and Ireland scrumhalf Conor Murray has signed a new deal with the IRFU, ending all speculation of a possible move to France.
Murray is widely regarded as the best nine in world rugby right now – and no doubt attracted plenty of interest in both England and France. So when he and his representatives sat down with the IRFU to negotiate a new deal, they new the contract offer had to be good.
Interestingly Murray’s new contract is ‘wholly’ funded by the IRFU and ensures he will remain in Ireland until at least 2022. It was reported last month that any new deal would eclipse anything an Irish player has ever received – and it appears that was true.
Multiple reports suggest Murray’s new deal is worth a whopping €800k-a-season. That brings him above Johnny Sexton (€700k) and makes him highest paid Irish Rugby player in history.
Money well spent? Definitely.
