“He Gives You A Huge Amount Of Confidence” – Hogg On The Lions Leader That Has Impressed Him

Leader.

British and Irish Lions fullback Stuart Hogg has revealed how impressed he’s been with Owen Farrell’s leadership qualities on tour as the touring side look to make history this weekend.

Farrell had to settle for a spot on the bench in the opening Test but looked good when he came on, scoring an important penalty to extend the Lions’ lead in the final minutes of the game.

Hogg said Farrell has given him a “huge amount of confidence” and noted that that the England captain gave an important speech after their training session on Tuesday.

“I’ve learned an awful lot about what needs to be said and when it needs to be said. Alun Wyn has hit the nail on the head this week with what he’s said, and I think someone who has really impressed me the last few weeks is Owen Farrell,” Hogg told us.

“He speaks really well and gives you a huge amount of confidence to go out there and execute your role. If you don’t quite get it right he’s quick to jump on that as well, but he spoke on Tuesday after the session.

“Not everything was perfect, we had some tricky weather conditions to deal with but we got out of that session what we needed. It was scrappy at times, and we know it’ll be scrappy during the game, but we left that field and I felt a lot better about what I initially thought.

“I’ve learned a huge amount from a lot of boys on how to get better. ”

Hogg is on his third Lions tour but only made his Test debut on Saturday, and now that he has that in the bag – the new goal is to win a series.

“100 percent,” Hogg said when asked if his goal now is to win the series.

“Everybody involved in the Lions, everybody who is on tour, everybody who has done all the hard work at home in the build-up to this goal.

“Every single person wants to be involved in a winning Test series. You can see that from everybody, media, commercial, coaches. We are all here with the same goal. We are enjoying each other’s company along the way as well.

“Tomorrow is another opportunity to represent the Lions, another opportunity to be closer to where we want to be. We will be doing everything we can to achieve our goals.”
