French side lining up move for current Ireland international star

Wanted man.

Given Ireland’s success over the last few years, it’s understandable that their players are more and more becoming hot commodities.

In years gone by big French giants have looked to the likes of South Africa and New Zealand to bring in talent but they may start looking a little bit closer to home in the future.

Joey Carbery is off to Bordeaux next season having announced his departure recently, and he could be joined in the Top 14 by a current Ireland international very soon with French outlet Sud Oues reporting that Bayonne are in the market to sign Ulster’s Stuart McCloskey.

The powerful centre has come off the bench for Ireland in their last two games against Italy and Wales but with Lions Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw currently still ahead of him, with Garry Ringrose set to return for the next round, he still finds himself below in the pecking order.

McCloskey is now 31 so if he was to move now is the time. Ulster are currently on the hunt for a new head coach following Dan McFarland’s departure so you’d imagine that will play a big role in his decision.

No doubt McCloskey would be a huge loss to Irish Rugby, so watch this space.
