High praise from the former All Black.
Fijian rugby players have become famous across the world for their silky skills, and absolutely phenomenal hands. It’s these skills that saw them win their first ever Olympic medal at this year’s Rio games with the return of rugby sevens.
That being said, if someone refers to you as having Fijian rugby skills- you take that as a serious compliment.
Munster centre Francis Saili spoke to TG4 this week ahead of their PRO12 clash with the Scarlets to discuss the game ahead and what it’s been like to come back into the team after such a long lay-off.
Saili returned in Munster’s bonus-point win over Leinster at Thomond Park, but it was the week after where he really made his mark, scoring the winning try against Glasgow in the Champions Cup, with just minutes left on the clock.
The try however wouldn’t have been made possible if it were not for some great footwork from Zebo, but more importantly- some silky hands from Keith Earls.
“Earlsy, i’m glad that he was out there because we caught eyes. I call him the ‘Fijian Irishman,’ and I was lucky enough to dot down in the corner.” Saili said.
The Fijian Irishman, from Moyross. We like the sound of that.
