The Free State Cheetahs became the first ever South African club side to play in Thomond Park this evening, but it’s a night they will no doubt rather forget.

Munster dominated from the start to finish, with Tommy O’Donnell crossing for an early try in the sixth minute. Munster added two more before the break with exciting young winger Alexander Wootton bagging a brace.

The southern province were caught a little off-guard when they came back out after the break, with Cheetahs centre William Small-Smith suddenly finding himself in acres of space to grab a score back for the Bloemfontein-based outfit.

Wootton however, was far from finished, grabbing two more tries in a sensational performance. The Garryowen winger looked electric every time he got the ball. finishing all four of his tries superbly, and was deservedly named MOTM.

His replacement Simon Zebo also got in on the action with an excellent finish in the 71st minute. The visitors did get a late consolation, but the reality is it’s gonna be a long season for the South African sides. The difference in class is embarrassingly evident.
