Former Connacht Star Given Suspended Sentence For Bar Altercation

Tonga and Oyonnax winger Fetu’u Vainikolo has been handed a one-year suspended sentence by a French court following an altercation at a bar.

The 31-year-old, who has played for Connacht and Exeter Chiefs in the recent past, left his victim with a double fracture to the jaw in September.

Along with the suspended sentence, Vainikolo received a €4,000 fine.

Vainikolo joined Connacht following the conclusion of the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The winger became a fan favourite with the western province bagging 7 tries in 37 appearances.

The Tongan star has also represented his country on 28 occasions, scoring 17 tries for the Pacific Islanders.
