The RFU have received a surprise application.
Although numerous rumours circulated throughout the weekend as to who might replace Stuart Lancaster as England coach, outside of Jake White, the games elite coaches have been distancing themselves from the vacant position.
However today the Daily Mail have reported that former All Black coach, John Mitchell, has submitted his CV to the RFU.
Mitchell told the Mail, ‘There aren’t too many opportunities to be involved with England and it would be an exciting challenge.
There is a huge amount of Talent in England; it’s just about how you evolve it once the emotion of the World Cup is out the door’.
Mitchell previously worked as England’s assistant under Clive Woodward during the late 90s, and holds previous international experience, which the RFU have consistently stated is a requirement.
However Mitchell has never been far from controversy, having dropped an on form Christian Cullen from the All Black squad.
It was also under his stewardship that New Zealand lost to Australia during the 2003 World Cup semi final.
