All Blacks legend Dan Carter names the best player in the world right now

Best in the world.

The Rugby World Cup officially kicks off today and if there’s one man that knows a thing or two about rugby’s showpiece event – it’s two-time winner, Dan Carter.

Arguably the greatest outhalf of all time, Carter is of course in France for the tournament and has been giving his thoughts, including who he thinks is the best player in the world right now.

And of course, it should come as no surprise that he believes France scrumhalf Antoine Dupont is head and shoulders above anyone else in the world right now, and it’s hard to argue against him.

Carter says he’s looking forward to seeing what level Dupont can reach at this year’s Rugby World Cup.

“Over the last three or four years, he has been the strongest and most consistent,” he told French newspaper Le Figaro.

“I was a little nervous for him when he became captain, but he showed, in his character and personality, that it didn’t change anything in the end. He’s still the same player.

“His calmness, ability to read the game and change the course of a game, and technical qualities remain impressive.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what level he reaches at the World Cup.”

Carter added that he believes the All Blacks can cause problems at the tournament and that his dream final is New Zealand vs France.

“I believe the All Blacks can raise their level,” added Carter.

“I hope France and the All Blacks meet in the final. This is my dream final, against France, with a victory for the All Blacks, it would be perfect.”

You can see Dupont in action tonight with France taking on New Zealand in this opening match of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and we’ll be covering all the action in our LIVE BLOG right here.
