World Cup-winning New Zealand fullback Isaia Toeava will leave Clermont at the end of the season, with the Top 14 side reportedly set to sign a high-profile replacement.
Former European Player of the Year Nick Abendanon is also set to leave the French side at the end of the season but French publication Midi Olympique is reporting that Clermont have signed Japanese winger Kotaro Matsushima.
His five tries at last year’s Rugby World Cup, that saw his team reach the quarter-finals of the competition, catapulted him to rugby stardom. He’s one of the hottest stars in the game right now and would be a hell of a signing for any club.
South African-born Matsushima s currently plying his trade in the Japanese Top League with Suntory Sungoliath and the 26-year-old has played Super Rugby with the Sharks, the Rebels and the Sunwolves.
