Connacht’s faint hopes of reaching the Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals were put to bed by Toulouse yesterday as the French side defeated the western province 21-7 at the Sportsground.
Converted scores from captain Jerome Kaino, Julien Marchand and former Connacht centre Pita Ahki cancelling out an early penalty try for the home side and ensures Toulouse top the pool with a round to spare.
Connacht’s campaign will now end with a final pool game against Montpellier on January 19th with the first season back in Europe’s top competition for a number of years not ending how they would have hoped.
Beating four-time champions Toulouse was never going to be an easy task. Especially when you’ve got guys like Cheslin Kolbe in your side who can do this…
