Brian O’Driscoll has backed Alun Wyn Jones to lead the British & Irish Lions this summer.
The Wales skipper is no stranger to leading the Lions, having captained them to victory in the final Test against Australia back in 2013.
O’Driscoll, a Lions captain himself back in 2005, reckons Jones is a perfect candidate for the role, but has not ruled out Rory Best’s chances of leading the Lions in New Zealand this summer either.
“I think there’s lots of guys still putting their hands up as potential captain.” O’Driscoll said, speaking on behalf of Land Rover, a Principal Partner of the British & Irish Lions
Alun Wyn Jones… Rory Best is definitely in the mix although he missed the Italian game last week but I think the big thing about captain is you need to be assert for the test match.
I think there’s lots of positions that are still very much undecided but for me at the moment you look at someone like Alun Wyn Jones, with a wealth of experience having been on a couple of tours and captained the Lions in the final game in Australia I think he ticks off a lot of the boxes. He’s respected by New Zealand down there as well and is a real confrontational type of player- the sort of person you want not taking any backward steps in a very tough place to tour.
What do you think? Is Jones the right man to lead the Lions this summer?
