“Are you mad?”
Brian O’Driscoll was on hand for commentary last night in Edinburgh as Stade Francais secured their first ever European title with a famous 25-17 win over Gloucester.
Gloucester took an early lead thanks to a Jonny May intercept try, before captain Parisse levelled. In the second-half Stade put Gloucester to the sword, with the English side grabbing a late consolation try.
While listening to O’Driscoll’s commentary in the first-half, the Irishman revealed a really interesting Jonny Wilkinson fact. Charlie Sharples went down with a bit of a bang, which got the commentary team talking about how he lost some teeth in training this week, despite wearing a gumshield.
O’Driscoll then revealed that he could never understand players that didn’t wear gumshields, revealing that Wilkinson went his whole career without one.
“I could never understand players that went through their career (without a gumshield). Johnny Wilkinson went through his whole career not wearing a gumshield.”
“Are you mad?”
