Breaking: Two Of Ireland’s Star Players Ruled Out Of Clash With Australia

Joe Schmidt’s Ireland will be without Johnny Sexton and Robbie Henshaw for Saturday’s Test against Australia.

Sexton damaged his hamstring during the defeat to New Zealand at the weekend, while Henshaw suffered a concussion in a challenge from Sam Cane, who has been cited for the tackle.

Both Rob Kearney and CJ Stander were suspected of concussion and are following return-to-play protocols.

Prop Tadhg Furlong has a dead leg and his progress will be monitored over the next 24 hours, while winger Simon Zebo is expected to train this week despite suffering cramp in the final stages of the loss.

Ireland team manager Mick Kearney told reporters:

“Robbie Henshaw was knocked unconscious by a shoulder contact to his jaw. He suffered a concussion and will not be involved this week.

“Johnny Sexton has suffered a minor hamstring injury and has been ruled out of the game at the weekend.

“Rob Kearney developed concussive symptoms after the game and following assessment. He will follow the graduated return to play.

“CJ Stander was removed for a suspected concussion and will complete the HIA [head injury assessment] process and the return to play protocols.”

Ireland will be hoping to bounce back against Michael Cheika’s Wallabies who are so far unbeaten on their European tour.
