Barbarians Teamsheet From 2008 Game Against Australia Emerges – And It’s Insanely Good

Ridiculous.

The Barbarians teamsheet from when they took on Australia back in 2008 has resurfaced online and it might just be the best Barbarians team we’ve ever seen – and that’s saying something.

Some of the world’s very best players have played for the famous touring side over the years – but to have as many as they did at the peak of their powers back in 2008 is absolutely incredible.

In the back-three, they had Percy Montgomery, Bryan Habana and Joe Rokocoko, with Jean de Villiers and Rico Gear in the centre. Francois Steyn and Fourie du Preez partnered in the halfbacks.

In the pack, they had one of the most frightening back-row combinations we’ve ever seen on paper, with Jerry Collins at six, Richie McCaw at seven and Schalk Burger at number eight.

Bakkies Botha and Johann Muller stood side by side in the second-row with former Munster prop Freddie Pucciariello, John Smith and Census Johnston packing down in the front row.

And then there’s the bench – with the likes of Chris Jack, George Gregan and Sonny Bill Williams all waiting to come on. Absolutely nuts. What a bloody team! But somehow they actually lost 11-8 to Australia on the day. Madness.
