Did Anybody Notice Who Joey Carbery Replaced When He Came On?

Madness.
Ireland got their summer series with Australia back on track this morning thanks to a 26-21 win that sets up a mouth-watering third Test decider in Sydney next weekend.
It was another bruising encounter, played at serious Test match pace. As a result, by the time we reached the final quarter – there were a lot of tired bodies out there, especially Irish ones who are just off the back off a full season.
Devin Toner was one of those tired bodies, after putting in a terrific effort on his return to the starting line-up. Toner starting cramping in the closing minutes, and with Tadhg Beirne and Jordi Murphy having already come on to replace Peter O’Mahony and Dan Leavy – Joe Schmidt had to look elsewhere.
“We had Joey Carbery come on to replace Devin Toner. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before, and I hope I don’t see it again!” Schmidt said after the game.
“Dev was cramping up, quite bad and we needed Joey on. I thought he did very well and made a couple of good tackles. We move on and we’ll have to glue guys together for next week.”
Carbery has done a job at ten and on the wing before for Ireland, as well as playing fifteen for Leinster. But we don’t think he’s gonna be adding second-row to his list of positions anytime soon.
