Dylan Hartley is back in the limelight for all the wrong reasons.
The England captain’s hearing began today at 2.00pm after his red-card offence against Leinster on Friday. Hartley’s swinging arm on Sean O’Brien, only minutes after coming on as a sub in the Champions Cup encounter has been dubbed reckless and dangerous.
Despite an excellent twelve months is which he guided England to an unbeaten season, picking up a Six Nations Grand Slam on the way, it appears his history of indiscipline has gotten the better of him yet again- a what a history it is.
Hartley has been banned a total of six times already in his career, adding up to a staggering 54 weeks suspended in his career. The suspensions have seen the hooker miss out on two Rugby World Cups and a British & Irish Lions tour.
Here’s look at his full disciplinary record. You’ll do well to find a worse one.
April 2007 – 26 weeks for eye gouging (two counts in one game)
March 2012 – 8 weeks for biting
December 2012 – 2 weeks for punching
May 2013 – 11 weeks for verbal abuse of the referee
December 2014 – 3 weeks for elbowing
May 2015 – 4 weeks for head-butting
December 2016 – ?
How long of a ban do you think he deserves for his challenge on Sean O’Brien considering his poor record?
