Joe Schmidt Set To Make At Least Two Changes For Final Wallaby Test

The final Test.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt is expected to make a least two changes to his starting line-up ahead of this weekend’s series decider with Michael Cheika’s Wallabies in Sydney.

The men in green bounced back from their 9-point opening Test defeat on Saturday, levelling the series in Melbourne with a 26-21 win at AAMI Park.

Cian Healy, Andrew Conway and Dan Leavy were all forced off with injuries in that game, with Healy’s believe to be the most serious of the three. Munster loosehead David Kilcoyne has been drafted in as cover, with Jack McGrath now likely to be restored to the starting line-up this weekend.

Elsewhere Jacob Stockdale is expected to come back in the matchday XV ahead of Andrew Conway, while their may be a shuffle in the back-row depending on the fitness of Leavy.

Ireland forwards coach Simon Easterby says there will definitely be some changes, whether that be in the starting line-up or on the replacements bench.

“There will be some changes and whether that’s the starting team or the bench I think there’s always going to be an opportunity throughout a three-test series, not only through injuries, but also through our need to get some exposure for some of the more inexperienced players on a tour like this.” Easterby said.

“We’re not that far out from a World Cup and this has been a great trip for us to get to know players that we’re maybe not that familiar with, but also to get some really important game time and training time with those players.”

Australia and Ireland meet at Allianz Stadium in Sydney this weekend in a winner-take-all series decider.
