What does it take to be a British & Irish Lions captain?
Some of the greatest names in rugby have led the Lions over the years in what many consider to be the pinnacle of a professional rugby career for those from Britain and Ireland. The likes of Brian O’Driscoll, Martin Johnson and Paul O’Connell have all famously led the touring side.
Experience, responsibility, leadership and above all- respect. These are the qualities that any Lions captain must have should he even be considered for the role. They must also be a guaranteed starter in their position.
Sam Warburton was the man tasked with leading the Lions last-time round but has dropped back down the pecking order in recent months as a result of injury problems and indifferent form. The back-row has long been the most competitive area for the Lions and it’s hard to see where he would start based on the form of other players in Britain and Ireland right now.
Who do you think should lead the Lions in New Zealand next year?
