Warren Gatland will name his Lions coaching team at noon tomorrow.
Joe Schmidt, Eddie Jones and Gregor Townsend have all turned the Kiwi down in recent weeks with Gatland expected to name Wales colleague Rob Howley as his backs coach yet again as a result.
Howley is expected to be joined by Ireland’s Andy Farrell and England’s Steve Borthwick who will reportedly take up roles as defence coach and forwards coach respectively. Gatland also stated this week that he may not name his full team tomorrow as there may be additions.
Ahead of the announcement however, there’s been speculation all day across social media that he may name a surprise coach tomorrow, with names like Ben Ryan of Fiji, former Lions captain Brian O’Driscoll and former world cup winning playmaker Johnny Wilkinson, all being mentioned.
Someone may be named instead of Howley, or perhaps as an additional coach.
Will Greenwood has also been mentioned but he has shot down the rumour on Twitter. Either way there’s been plenty of talk about a left field announcement that will shock many. We’ll just have to tune in tomorrow and find out!
