Good news.
Ireland have been handed a triple fitness boost with news that Kieran Marmion, Rob Kearney and Garry Ringrose will likely all be fit and ready to go for Saturday’s Test with the All Blacks.
Marmion rolled his ankle in yesterday’s win over Argentina and was forced off in the second half after scoring Ireland’s opening try. But the Connacht man’s problem isn’t serious.
“Kieran just rolled his ankle a little bit.” Schmidt said after the game.
“If you watch the game on, he does play on, so we’d be very hopeful that he’ll be fine. He may have to elevate his ankle for the next 24 to 48 hours and get a bit of ice on it. But we’d be relatively confident he’d be okay.”
Meanwhile Ringrose and Kearney are expected to train fully next week and should come back into contention for the New Zealand game at the Aviva next weekend.
“Our prediction is they will train fully on Monday. So, with that prediction, it puts them into the mix for sure.” Schmidt added.
“In the context of some guys that are a little bit doubtful, that is really important to us.”
Meanwhile Sean O’Brien is definitely out of the rest of the series after he broke his arm. An update on Robbie Henshaw should communicated tomorrow, while there’s still hope Conor Murray will be fit for the game.
