Four Irish players named in Guinness Six Nations Team of the Championship

The best of the best

Four Ireland players have been included in the fan-voted Six Nations Team of the Championship — but there’s no sign of a single England player after a disappointing campaign.

Ireland’s strong showing, which saw them secure a fourth Triple Crown in five years, is reflected in the inclusion of Stuart McCloskey alongside a powerful forward trio of Tadhg Beirne, Caelan Doris and Jack Conan.

They are matched by champions France, who also have four players selected after edging Ireland to the title in dramatic fashion in Paris. Antoine Dupont and Thomas Ramos are joined by second row Mickael Guillard and the standout performer of the tournament, Louis Bielle-Biarrey.

The French winger rewrote the record books with nine tries across the championship — including four in the title-deciding win over England — while Ramos’ nerveless kicking sealed victory in stoppage time of the final game.

Scotland, who bounced back from an opening-round defeat to Italy to finish third, have three players included. Finn Russell’s control at fly-half is recognised alongside Kyle Steyn and back row Rory Darge.

Italy also boast three representatives after a campaign that delivered two wins and a fourth-place finish, with Giacomo Nicotera, Simone Ferrari and Tommaso Menoncello all making the cut.

Wales have just one inclusion, with Rhys Carre rewarded after a difficult tournament that ended on a positive note with victory over Italy.
