Former Montpellier scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar is in talks with the Cheetahs and the Sharks ahead of a potential return to South Africa according to Afrikaans publication The Rapport.
35-year-old Pienaar was recently released from his contract a year early by Montpellier and is expected to resume playing after an extended absence from the game following the tragic death of his sister back in February.
Pienaar played for the Cheetahs during his schoolboy years before making the switch to the Sharks in 2004. He would go on to help the Sharks to a Super Rugby title while also earning a Springboks call up in 2006.
A move back to Ulster has also been mooted but may be blocked by the IRFU for the same reason he and his family were forced to uproot in the first place.
