Reason for Siya Kolisi’s sudden Racing 92 exit becomes apparent

Exit door.

Reports emerged this week revealing that Springboks captain Siya Kolisi is set for a shock exit from Racing 92 after just one season at the French giants.

Kolisi signed a long-term deal with Racing following the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France after leading South Africa to a second successful Webb Ellis triumph, in one of the biggest deals in history.

The French side made him one of the highest-paid players in the world but his relationship with the club appeared to sour ahead of South Africa’s summer series with Ireland, with Racing owner Jacky Lorenzetti saying he “gained weight, lost shape” and was “transparent” in their play-off game with Bordeaux.

However, South African outlet Rapport are reporting that this is not the reason for his exit, stating that Kolisi wants to leave for personal reasons and the exit is an “amicable” one.

“It is done practically and on good terms based on what is best for all parties,” Rapport adds.

“The transfer will be immediate if the talks are successful.”

Kolisi’s former club the Sharks are favourites to bring him back to South Africa, but cost will be an issue. The Durban-based franchise received a sizeable fee for Kolisi’s services when he left them last year and bringing the Springboks captain back will not be cheap.
