Munster Rugby set to complete deal for former England international

Reinforcements.

Munster Rugby are reportedly closing in on the signing of former England international Kieran Brookes as Clayton McMillan continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.

The experienced tighthead, who qualifies for Ireland through family heritage, is expected to arrive from French side Perpignan despite signing a contract extension that appeared to keep him at the Top 14 club until 2027, according to The Irish Independent.

Brookes will turn 36 later this summer but brings a wealth of experience, having enjoyed spells with Newcastle Falcons, Leicester Tigers, Northampton Saints, Wasps, Toulon and Perpignan. He also won 16 England caps, featuring at the 2015 Rugby World Cup before helping England secure the 2016 Six Nations Grand Slam.

While his international career came with England, Brookes represented Ireland at U19 and U20 level before switching allegiance, meaning he also arrives as an Irish-qualified player.

If the deal is completed, it would represent an important piece of business for Munster as they scramble to fill their front-row stocks.
