Ouch.
CJ Stander was forced off towards the end of Ireland’s defeat to England at the Aviva Stadium tonight, being replaced by Sean O’Brien at around 65 minutes with a nasty looking facial injury.
Ireland boss Joe Schmidt said after the game that the Munster forward will need a scan, but it appears we already know just how serious his injury is.
Stander’s brother-in-law was at the game along with his wife, and he posted an image of the trio after the game revealing the number eight suffered two fractures in his cheek and one in his eye socket.
Incredibly this apparently happened just minutes into the game, with Stander playing on for 62 minutes through the pain. What an absolute warrior.
Not the result we wanted but an incredible experience nonetheless and proud of @CJStander playing 62 mins with two fractures in his cheek and eye socket 😳 pic.twitter.com/GUswqOO8QJ
