Nasty.
Ireland and the Springboks went toe-to-toe in one of the greatest Test matches in recent memory last night, with the Irish edging a close encounter in Pool B.
We knew it was going to be a physical encounter between the two sides, but even at that, the game somehow exceeded all expectations and will go down as an instant Rugby World Cup classic.
The physicality and strength on display was almost Herculean at times as the top two ranked teams in the world clashed, with Ireland’s accuracy from the tee proving to be crucial.
There were also plenty off the ball niggles, but one particularly nasty one from Springboks replacement prop Ox Nche, where he appears to stamp on Ireland’s Josh van der Flier.

Ireland addressed the incident it this morning during their Sunday media call, with coach John Fogarty saying he wasn’t aware of the stamping but trusts in World Rugby to have a look at it.
“I wasn’t aware of a stamping to be honest,” Fogarty said.
“I am sure World Rugby and the disciplinary board will be looking across everything and assessing those bits.
“But at this moment in time, I haven’t heard anything at our end.”
