Jarryd Hayne Negotiating With Rugby Union Side

Jarryd Hayne has held talks with the Australian Rugby Union to discuss a possible move to the Waratahs.

Hayne played for Fiji at the London Sevens in May but failed to make the cut for their squad to participate at next month’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 28-year-old was expected to return to his former NRL side, the Parramatta Eels, but it is reported in the Australian media that he met ARU chief executive Bill Pulver in Sydney on Wednesday to discuss the prospect of joining the Waratahs.

“We have had dialogue with Jarryd and discussed the potential opportunities available to him in rugby,” Pulver told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“Jarryd is obviously a very high-calibre athlete and we are always open to talking to a player who is genuinely interested in playing the game.”

According to reports, Hayne requested the meeting despite the fact that his Fijian allegiance disqualifies him from playing for the Wallabies at Test level.

Hayne’s services are also wanted by rugby union clubs in France and Japan. [Planet Rugby]
