Heading home.
Ireland’s 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign came to an unfortunate end on Saturday with defeat to the All Blacks in the quarter-finals.
The men in green came into the game undefeated, having defeated the likes of South Africa and Scotland in the pool stages but came up short at the weekend, with New Zealand edging a close affair 28-24.
The players boarded a flight home from Paris this morning as they get set to return to action with their clubs in the coming weeks, but one man who won’t be back on a pitch anytime soon – is captain Johnny Sexton.
Sexton, along with Keith Earls, both hung up their boots after Saturday’s game and Jack Conan couldn’t resist giving Sexton a good sledging, inviting passengers to form a queue and give him a “hug and a kiss” on the way home.
Poor Johnny!
Ireland's players were in good spirits as they boarded the flight home from the Rugby World Cup in Paris. Jack Conan took to the intercom to invite passengers to give retiring captain Johnny Sexton 'a hug and a kiss' before take-off. #RugbyWorldCup #RugbyWorldCup2023 pic.twitter.com/LlZyGdLgMY
