Ireland captain Rory Best reckons Sean O’Brien probably went the wrong way about venting his Lions frustration.
O’Brien grabbed headlines a couple of weeks back after he was hugely critical of the Lions coaching team and their preparations ahead of the Test series with the All Blacks.
O’Brien said the coaches panicked and singled out attack coach Rob Howley for not being able to impose his tactics on the team. Best, who also toured with the Lions, thinks perhaps the Leinster back-row shouldn’t have named names.
“I think he just felt something and wanted to get the frustration off his chest. I think possibly he could have went about it a different way.” Best told Sinead Kissane of TV3.
“I don’t necessarily think that he needed to pick out individuals within the coaching set-up.”
At the same time Best was supportive of O’Brien in letting people know how he felt, and from a players point of view he said it’s refreshing to see someone speak out. Have a watch below.
