Five Ireland stars included in Greatest Champions Cup XV of the last 30 years
The best of the best.
Popular French outlet L’Equipe have named five Irish players in their ‘Greatest Champions Cup XV’ as they mark the 30th anniversary of the tournament.
While Irish teams have seen their impact on the competition lessen in recent years, there’s no denying their overall impact on the competition, with Leinster winning the competition on four occasions, Munster on two and Ulster on one.
In the backs, Leinster’s Rob Kearney and Brian O’Driscoll both make the cut, along with the tournament’s all-time top points scorer, former Munster outhalf Ronan O’Gara.
Then, in the pack, former World Player of the Year Josh van der Flier is named in the back row, while Paul O’Connell also gets the nod in the second row alongside England captain Maro Itoje.
