Not impressed.
Ireland international Rob Herring made headlines this week with some controversial comments ahead of Ireland’s huge clash with France in the opening round of the Six Nations.
The men in green demolished the French with a record victory away from home, running in five tries in a 38-17 win over Les Blues in Marseille.
Herring suggested the game was the World Cup final that “everyone wanted” to see, rather than the Springboks vs All Blacks final we got.
“What a way to start the Six Nations. This is the World Cup final that everyone wanted, but never got,” Herring wrote in his BBC column.
“It’s really exciting. Ireland and France have been the best two sides in the world over the past number of years.”
Ireland were knocked out at the quarter-final stages by finalists New Zealand, with France also going out at the quarter-final stages to eventual winners, South Africa.
Eben Etzebeth played a key role for the Boks throughout the World Cup and laughed at Herring’s claim in a comment under a quote graphic post by Rugby Pass.
Undoubtedly, he’s not the only Springbok who found Herring’s comments entertaining.
