South African Rugby release statement on Rassie Erasmus’ future following World Cup win

Four more years.

South African Rugby have released a statement confirming that Rassie Erasmus will take over Jacques Nienaber’s responsibilities as Springboks head coach.

Erasmus stepped into a director of rugby role following South Africa’s Rugby World Cup win back in 2018 with Nienaber assuming the responsibility of head coach.

But with Nienaber heading to Leinster to replace Stuart Lancaster, there had been speculation as to who would replace him and the future of Erasmus who had been linked with the IRFU performance director role that was filled by David Humphreys this week.

Erasmus will now look to guide South Africa to a third successive Rugby World Cup and further cement his legacy with the Springboks.

Last weekend’s victory ensured a record-breaking fourth title for South Africa but no team has ever done three on the bounce.
