Not impressed.

Ireland boss Andy Farrell has spoken to the media this afternoon after naming his team to take on England at the Aviva Stadium this weekend.

Farrell has made a number of changes to the side that defeated Italy a fortnight ago, with the likes of James Lowe, Mack Hansen, and Peter O’Mahony all set to start. Keith Earls has been named on the bench as he gets set to make his 100th appearance for Ireland.

But considering Andy Farrell’s son is a certain England captain, the elephant in the room needed to be addressed before any discussion was had about his team selection and the game itself this weekend.

Owen Farrell was left out of England’s squad for the game on Saturday as the saga surrounding his disciplinary case continues, with Steve Borthwick confirming he was originally set to feature before it was announced this morning that World Rugby would be appealing the decision to rescind his red card against Wales.

“As part of our prep, Owen Farrell was due to be selected. Owen will travel to Ireland. He understands the situation, but is of course disappointed, as I am.” Borthwick said.

But what does Owen’s father, and Ireland head coach, Andy Farrell make of the whole saga?

“Whatever I say is probably flawed. When you’re asking someone about their son, it’s going to be flawed,” Farrell said.

“What I would say is that the circus around this is absolutely disgusting, in my opinion. Disgusting.

“I suppose those people that have loved their time in the sun get a few more days to keep going at that.”

Ireland face England at the Aviva Stadium this Saturday at 5:30 pm.
