The Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Umbro announced a surprise four-year kit deal this morning with England set to drop long-term suppliers Canterbury in a bold move.

The English sports brand will be the RFU’s Official Technical Kit Partner from 1st September 2020, when the double-diamond of Umbro will be worn by the England Men’s teams, Red Roses, Sevens and age-grade teams.

Umbro, who are renowned for being a brand associated with football, have not been involved with rugby for more than a decade and have reportedly paid in excess of £5million for the partnership.

Umbro are most famous for providing kit to the England football team before Nike took over in 2012. In the past, they’ve provided rugby kits for the likes of Ireland and Scotland but it has been a very long time since we’ve seen them in rugby.

And now it seems their kit has been leaked online in a now-deleted Instagram post that features Sam Underhill and Tom Curry.

We’re not sure if this is an actual kit design or maybe just some training kit – but either way, it’s a bold look. We would have stuck with Canterbury.
