Ronan O’Gara says he has “spoken to Munster” about a as he weighs up his future in coaching, but says the time is still not right for him to return to his native province.
O’Gara is in his second season with Super Rugby side the Crusaders, with reports this week suggesting he will leave New Zealand at the end of their season and return to France with La Rochelle.
But the former Munster and Ireland outhalf says he has not signed a contract with La Rochelle, contrary to the reports. Speaking to Off The Ball about his coaching future, O’Gara said that he will make a decision in the next two weeks.
“I’ve got to weigh up a few options,” he said.
“There’s some really tough decisions to make. So hopefully in the next 10 or 14 days there will be a decision. But nothing is done yet.”
“There are other options. There are two or three other options. It’s a great position to be in.”
“There is a sporting decision to make and a family decision to make. And, I could stay with the Crusaders for another season.”
“Crusaders have been very good and they have been very patient and I genuinely can’t make up my mind and I think they understand that.”
In terms of Munster, who are set to lose forwards coach Jerry Flannery and backs coach Felix Jones at the end of the season, O’Gara says he has spoken to the southern province, but he doe not want to “go down that route right now.’
“I have spoken to Munster but there is no serious conversation in terms of a coaching position because I don’t want to go down that route right now,” he added
“If I am good enough I can get a job at home on my terms.”
